The Commercial Property Market Grows From Strength to Strength
26 May, 20215 MinutesWhat a turbulent 14 months it has been but, whilst touching every single piece of wood I can in my makeshift office that has been my place of work over the pandemic, it seems as though we are finally getting there
It has been especially turbulent for Commercial Property, an area of law we know has been impacted by economic activity in the past. We have been in regular contact with clients at law firms across multiple regions and sizes and there has been a clear message; we are still very busy. In fact, most firms have recently reported their yearend accounts and the financial impact of the pandemic has been as minimal as many of them could have even dreamed of.
But Commercial Property was one of the areas which saw an initial, and slightly more elongated, slump after the first lockdown was announced. Before lockdown, Commercial Property was probably our busiest area and I’m sure a lot of law firms would echo that sentiment. Most of this slowdown was purely down to uncertainty.
Whilst conveyancing has absolutely thrived since September, Commercial Property took slightly longer to regain its strength. However, especially since the turn of the year, Commercial Property gradually began to become busier and busier. Over the last month, I personally have been briefed on more Commercial Property roles than in any other area of law. There is no signs of this stopping and the message I’ve had from firms is that the slowdown in Commercial Property recruitment during the first two lockdowns was nothing to do with a slowdown in work, but it was more to do with how the uncertainty of the pandemic might play out.
It now seems as though this uncertainty has faded and with it, firms’ hesitancy to recruit into the specialism. I am currently working with many firms, varying from large internationals to small high street firms, who are looking to add to their Commercial Property team. Consequently, we just do not have enough candidates for this demand, and I was wondering if you could help me with this.
